On 20 June 2024, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, together with Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ) and Kelab Alami Mukim Tanjung Kupang, successfully organised an exciting Eco Lestari 3R programme for 30 “Eco Warriors” from primary and secondary schools in Gelang Patah area namely, SK Pendas Laut, SK Tg Kupang and SMK Tg Adang.

With the primary goal to change the culture and mindset of the community from an early age, the programme is also aimed to help instil positive environmental habits and foster a sense of community responsibility and encourages children to see themselves as active participants in environmental stewardship.

The Eco Lestari initiative is part of PTP’s on-going Corporate Sustainable Investment (CSI) to promote conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the environmental ecosystems. The 3R programme – focused on reducing, reusing and recycling – is one of the many activities under Eco Lestari, aimed at changing the culture and mindset of the communities regarding environmental importance.

Academically, the programme equipped our young planeteers with the knowledge to create impactful presentations on environmental topics, such as the 3Rs, mangroves and composting. The students also participated in a Recycling Items Collection competition, putting their 3R knowledge into action.

The students were also given a tour inside PTP’s terminal to see the day-to-day terminal operations and learn about various career opportunities at PTP.

Apart from the Eco Lestari Programme, PTP’s Corporate Sustainable Investment (CSI) Framework also include Kasih Lestari Programme,  a special community wellbeing to accelerate local ventures growth through equitable & sustainable Platform and Harapan Lestari Programme, a comprehensive upskilling for targeted underprivileged community with the aim to eradicate poverty through sustainable development & employability programme respectively.
