PTP ORGANISES BACK-TO-BACK SUSTAINABLE CSR ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF ECO LESTARI PROGRAMME
On 16 and 19 August 2023, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, together with Johor Port Authority (JPA) and Kelab Alami Mukim Tanjung Kupang, organised two environmental activities, namely 3R – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle and Mangrove Excursion to instil a sense of environmental protection for young individuals from an early age.
These activities were conducted as part of PTP’s Eco Lestari Programme, which seeks to cultivate sustainable green communities through eco-friendly practices and volunteerism. Both events saw the participation of 24 volunteers altogether from PTP, JPA, and Kelab Alami Tanjung Kupang, along with 30 school children designated as environmental heroes from three selected schools in the Gelang Patah area: SK Pendas Laut, SK Tanjung Kupang, and SMK Tanjung Adang.
The students were exposed to various related environmental activities including waste management, impact on the environment, organic and inorganic materials decomposition activity, mangrove audit and seed planting as well as various other insightful and educational games about the environment.
In a year-long structured agenda under the Eco Lestari Programme, the 30 eco-heroes will be exposed to comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge about environmental sustainability by PTP and Kelab Alami. The main goal is for these students to go on and share what they have learnt with their families, friends and their communities at large, creating a cascading effect as well as making a greater impact on their respective areas of influence through activism and contributions.
Apart from Eco Lestari Programme, PTP’s Corporate Social Responsibility Framework includes the Kasih Lestari Programme, a special community wellbeing aimed at accelerating local ventures’ growth through equitable and sustainable platform. In addition, is the Harapan Lestari Programme, a comprehensive upskilling initiative for targeted underprivileged communities with the aim of eradicating poverty through sustainable development and employability programmes.
