PTP LAUNCHES SUSTAINABILITY FRAMEWORK DURING PTP ESG DAY 2023

On 21 February 2023, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, successfully launched its Sustainability Framework & Targets to guide the company to deliver sustainable value by integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into its core business.

With the theme “Together, Towards a Sustainable Future”, PTP ESG Day marks the launching of PTP’s ESG Framework and accelerating its ESG journey. The event, held at Block B Wisma PTP was graced by various dignitaries including YB Raven Kumar Krishnasamy, Johor State Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Culture Committee; Dato’ Haji Mohd Haffiz Haji Ahmad, Mayor of Iskandar Puteri; Dr Mohd Famey Yusof, Director, Department of Environment; Taufik Bahar, Director of Johor National Parks Corporation; Osman Hj Isa, Deputy Director (Technical Services), Dept of Occupational Safety & Health Johor; Kamaruzaman Haji Munasir, General Manager of Johor Port Authority; Mohd Norlisam Hj Nordin, General Manager of SWM Environment and Edey Suresh, Johor State Director of United Nations Global Compact Malaysia and Brunei.

During the event, PTP also signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) and Johor National Park Corporation (Perbadanan Taman Negara Johor) as well as the United Nations Global Compact pledge.

The MoU with Perbadanan Taman Negara Johor states that PTP will commit to replanting 160,000 mangrove trees at Tanjung Piai, Johor, over five years period in order to protect the mangrove and its biodiversity.

In cultivating a recycling culture, PTP is also collaborating with SWM Environment to establish a community-recycling centre. This centre will raise public awareness of environmental issues, such as the need to reduce, reuse and recycle materials that would otherwise need to be disposed of in landfills by utilising the KITARecycle platform.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Global Compact pledge further showcases PTP’s commitment in creating a sustainable future together with its strategic partners.

As a platform to provide education and awareness, ESG themed activities were held concurrently such as ESG Go! and Environment, Social, Governance and ESG With Children of PTPeers which gathered the participation of 155 staff, 30 children and 50 volunteers across all divisions.

Through the Sustainability Framework, PTP will integrate ESG considerations and sustainability into its decisions and daily operations by better managing the governance framework internally and across the supply chain, energy usage and waste management, material consumption patterns as well as human rights aspects.

PTP also aims to give back to the community and society, via its corporate social responsibility programmes. This includes maintaining its efforts to improve and empower communities and protect the environment.
