Kontena Nasional Berhad received 30 units of Volvo’s FM440 6×2 T RAS prime movers from Volvo Trucks Malaysia in a fleet expansion and modernisation move.
21 May 2019 – Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group has successfully sealed an agreement with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to develop a comprehensive safety training programme for port workers.
Under the programme, PTP and NIOSH will collaborate in developing and implementing training programmes specially designed as introductory training modules for contractors who are working or going to work in the port industry, especially in PTP.
The objectives of this programme are to cultivate the safety-first culture and to provide basic occupational safety and health (OSH) training for workers on the hazards and risks present in the port industry prior to their entry into the industry. The programme will provide workers the knowledge and information on OSH legal requirements as well as PTP’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements and expectations.
Speaking after the event, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of NIOSH, said that he is pleased that more employers are taking a proactive step in engaging with NIOSH to find ways to reduce the number of industrial accidents and to achieve the goal of zero accidents at their workplaces.
“Globalisation, intense competition and technological progress had drastically changed the working environment that led to new workplace hazards and risks. Therefore, employees, employers and the enforcement authorities must always be prepared to face new threats that could affect workers’ safety and health as well as being environmentally conscious. This could only be achieved with strong commitment and support from all employers and workers.”
Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP, in his statement remarked that “PTP is committed to providing visible assurance, leadership and full involvement in health, safety and environment; thus realising the drive to make PTP as the safest place to work.”
“Safety is the key value we hold in everything we do in PTP; for our own employees, our contractors, the customers we serve and the local and extended communities in the area we operate in. We are pleased to collaborate with NIOSH in developing this comprehensive training programme for the port workers as well as for the betterment of OSH culture in general”, he added.
