NORTHPORT CONTRIBUTES ESSENTIALS TO KLANG FRONTLINERS
KLANG, 16th April 2020 – Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation’s healthcare workers, police and army personnel have been putting their lives on the line and are working hand-in-hand to battle COVID-19 on the frontline. Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of the MMC Group is supporting their efforts by contributing essential items to the frontliners.The Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) programme was organised as part of the Company’s community engagement activities during the Movement Control Order (“MCO”). For this programme, a donation campaign called the ‘Tabung Wira Negara: Perangi COVID-19’ was established by Northport to give its employees an opportunity to contribute and support frontline workers in battling the deadly pandemic.
“The alarming threat of the pandemic to the national health and safety has forced the frontline workers to work tirelessly and risk their lives in battling the disease. In support of our frontline heroes, we have launched our own ‘Tabung Wira Negara: Perangi COVID-19’. I’m very happy with the success of this campaign and it is a reflection of our caring, sensitive, generous and kind-hearted employees who truly appreciate the sacrifices of our frontliners,” said Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport.
The ‘Tabung Wira Negara: Perangi COVID-19’ has successfully collected a total of RM21,644.20 which was fully utilised to purchase personal protective equipment (“PPE”) and food items to be distributed to the frontline workers around the Klang area.
On 13 April 2020, TeamNorthport volunteers led by Dato’ Azman distributed the essential items to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang as well as the North and South Klang District Police Headquarters. Among the essential items were face masks, hand gloves, aprons, boot and shoe covers, PPE gowns, personal care and hygiene products, mineral water, biscuits as well as disposable food containers.
Northport has participated and organised various CSR programmes since the enforcement of the MCO in March 2020. Among the programmes include the financial contribution to the Tabung COVID-19 Selangor amounting to RM10,000; distribution of face masks and hand sanitisers to the hauliers and lorry drivers in Port Klang and an RM10,000 contribution to the Ministry of Health Malaysia to purchase an additional thermal scanner for Port Klang which were initiatives led by Port Klang Authority; as well as the donation of ten units of containers worth RM80,000 to a team of Malaysian doctors, engineers and designers to formulate a solution for an effective and efficient mass testing of COVID-19 under the COMBAT or Coronavirus Mobile Test initiative.
“We will continue to support our community especially our front liners who are selflessly working to ensure the safety and well-being of all Malaysians. To all our frontline heroes, we owe you a big thank you for your sacrifices and bravery in battling this deadly pandemic,” concluded Dato’ Azman.
