PUTRAJAYA, 4 March 2024 – Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group, was announced as the winner of the “Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Practitioner with Best Integrity” Special Award at the Integrity, Governance, and Anti-corruption Awards (“AIGA”) 2023 event. During the same event, Northport was also honoured with the Gold Award of AIGA 2023. The award ceremony event was hosted by the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) at Dewan Seri Siantan, Perbadanan Putrajaya on 29 February 2024.

The Special Award was presented by the Minister of Finance II, Yang Berhormat Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan to Northport’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof. Also present at the event was the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, who is also the Chairman of IIM.

AIGA is awarded to deserving public and private sector organisations in recognition of their exceptional commitment in cultivating the best integrity and governance practices as well as anti-corruption initiatives within the organisations. The award is also a platform to uncover the capacity, capability, commitment and determination of the public and private sectors through the implementation of integrity management and corruption prevention.

“We are truly honoured to be announced the winner of the “Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Practitioner with Best Integrity” Special Award and be recognised as the Gold Award winner at AIGA 2023. This achievement is a manifestation of our commitment and capabilities in implementing the Occupational Safety and Health management system and Anti-Bribery management system as an essential part of our business operations, while at the same time, combating corruption across our organisation, which is part of our “Reinventing Northport” transformation journey”, said Dato’ Azman.

Since the takeover of Northport by MMC in 2016, the port has embarked on a transformation journey called “Reinventing Northport” and established a new set of Core Values namely Integrity, Customer Focus, Innovation, Teamwork and Excellence (InCITE).

“The “Reinventing Northport” program is a strategic step to transform Northport into a “Safer, Greener, Smarter, Better” port and improve the negative perception of ports as being an unsafe workplace where accidents and criminal activities can occur. As one of the country’s essential service providers and “Economic Frontliners”, we are committed to continuously combat and eradicate any form of violations or wrongdoings in our operations in order to strengthen our port’s security standards and to safeguard our business operations,” said Dato’ Azman.

A total of 154 agencies from across the country, comprising 95 public sector agencies and 59 private sector agencies participated in AIGA 2023. This marked a significant increase of 38 percent compared to AIGA 2022, during which Northport was also announced as a Gold Award winner at the ceremony.

For the record, in May 2022, Northport was announced as the winner of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (“IAPH”) 2022 Sustainability Award under the Health Safety and Security category during the IAPH World Ports Conference 2022 held in Vancouver, Canada. Northport defeated two other finalists, Port of Montreal and Port of Amsterdam, in this category. The recognition was awarded to Northport in acknowledgment of its outstanding project, titled “Journey towards HSE Excellence.” Northport made history as the first Malaysian port to receive the prestigious IAPH Sustainability Award.

In November 2022, Northport made a clean sweep of awards at the National Occupational Safety and Health Awards 2020/2021. The Company took home three awards namely the CEO of the Year (Private Sector), Business Services and MentorMentee (Mentor) awards. Organised by the National Council of Occupational Safety and Health (“NCOSH”), this event stands as one of Malaysia’s most prestigious award events, honouring organisations and individuals for their outstanding performance in occupational safety and health.

In May 2023, Northport was announced as one of the recipients of the British Safety Council’s 2023 International Safety Awards (Merit) during the award presentation ceremony held in London. The prestigious award recognises and celebrates organizations from around the world which have shown a true commitment and dedication to keeping their workers and workplaces healthy and safe.

In November 2023, Northport was announced as the recipient of the Anugerah Perdana Penarafan Bintang Sasaran Penting (APBSP) 2023 under the Key Point ll category, for its commitment and dedication to achieving excellence in security management and promoting a culture of safety and security across the organisation.
