NORTHPORT SUPPORTS COMMUNITY WELL-BEING THROUGH THE DONATION OF WHEELCHAIRS

On 20 March 2024, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group, demonstrated its commitment to supporting community well-being by donating ten units of wheelchairs to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (“HTAR”) in Klang. The donation, which was part of Northport’s Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives, will provide essential mobility support to citizens and patients in need at the hospital.

The handover ceremony, held at the Main Building lobby of HTAR, was attended by representatives from Northport and hospital administrators. During the ceremony, Northport’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, presented the wheelchairs to HTAR’s Director, Dr. Selvamalar Selvarajan.

“We hope that through our donation, we can help alleviate the challenges faced by HTAR and assist those patients most in need. By extending a helping hand, we aim to contribute to the enhancement of healthcare services and improve the well-being of individuals in our community,” said Dato’ Azman.

Established in 1985, HTAR, located in the Klang district, is a Government hospital with over 1,000 patient beds and 20 clinical departments. It serves as the primary specialist referral centre for the district, covering areas such as Klang, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and parts of Petaling and Kuala Langat. Over the years, HTAR has played a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services and medical expertise to the local community, addressing a wide range of healthcare needs and contributing significantly to the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

Northport has previously demonstrated its commitment to supporting frontline workers at HTAR through various CSR initiatives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. One notable initiative was the “Tabung Wira Negara: Perangi COVID-19” donation campaign. The campaign provided an avenue for Northport employees to contribute towards supporting frontline workers in their battle against the pandemic. The campaign successfully raised a total of RM21,644.20, which was fully utilized to purchase essential items such as personal protective equipment (“PPE”) and food items. These supplies were distributed to frontline workers at HTAR as well as the North and South Klang District Police Headquarters.

Northport had also carried out CSR initiative with HTAR by organizing a visit to its Medical and Geriatric Ward during the Chinese New Year celebration in 2020. During the program, Northport’s volunteers distributed ‘ang pow’ and hampers to the elderly patients, aiming to spread the joy and happiness of the Chinese New Year festival.
