NORTHPORT SAFETY DAY 2023 HIGHLIGHTS ONGOING DEDICATION TO WORKPLACE SAFETY

On 24 November 2023, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, organised the Northport Safety Day 2023 with the theme “Kerana Dirimu Begitu Berharga, Elakkan Kemalangan.” Held at the Northport Container and Conventional parking area, the objective of the event was to celebrate and promote a safe and healthy working environment within the organisation. In line with this year’s World Occupational Safety and Health Day theme, “A Safe and Healthy Working Environment – A Fundamental Right,” the event featured a range of activities designed to highlight the importance of workplace safety.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the ‘Best Safety Performer Awards’, ‘Best Safety Coordinator Award’ and the recognition of the ‘Best Safety Contractor Award,’ honouring exemplary Northport employees and contractors for their outstanding commitment to safety and health.

Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport, was present to launch the Northport Safety Day 2023 event. Also present were ACP Dr Tan Geok Mooi, Deputy Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, Selangor Police Contingent; ASP Mohamed Hafeez Assad, Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, North Klang District Police Headquarters and Khairul Fitri Samsudin, Deputy Head of Enforcement Section, Department of Occupational Safety and Health Selangor.

The Northport Safety Day 2023 event also featured exhibition booths with participation from various agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department Malaysia, Lembaga Zakat Selangor, Fisioterapi Asia, Kumpulan Megaklinik Zahran, Arca Timur Sdn Bhd, Northport International Centre of Excellence and Northport Fire & Rescue Team. Ceramah Perdana by Ustaz Harryanto Rizal and a sharing session by Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department were also organised as part of the day-long event, offering valuable insights, information and advice on workplace safety.

“I hope all Northport employees and port users will continuously prioritize safety at work, to ensure that you return home to your beloved families safely. By recognizing our own safety as a top priority, we not only protect our lives and well-being, but also contribute to the long-term success of the Company,” said Dato’ Azman during his speech at the event.

In November last year, Northport made a clean sweep of awards at the National Occupational Safety and Health Awards 2020/2021 with three awards namely the CEO of the Year (Private Sector), Business Services and Mentor-Mentee (Mentor) awards. In May this year, Northport was announced as one of the recipients of the British Safety Council’s 2023 International Safety Awards (Merit) during the award presentation ceremony held in London. The prestigious award recognises and celebrates organisations from around the world which have shown a true commitment and dedication to keeping their workers and workplaces healthy and safe.
