Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, recently showcased its commitment to promoting career opportunities and empowering talent in the port and logistics industry by participating in two carnivals in the Klang Valley.
On 28 July 2024, Northport participated in a Career Carnival organised by the Port Klang Authority (PKA) for the Training Programme for GDL and E License Haulier Driver and Training Programme for D License. The entire programme consists of three phases:
- Phase 1: involving 200 prime mover drivers from Northport and Westports,
- Phase 2: involving 300 new haulier drivers for GDL and E licenses, and
- Phase 3: aiming to train 200 individuals for D licenses.
Held at Dewan Kelab Sukan Lembaga Pelabuhan Kelang, the programme was jointly supported by Northport and Westports. During the event, on-site interviews were conducted to identify potential candidates for the programme.
Meanwhile, from 26 to 28 July 2024, Northport also participated in the Karnival Rakyat Karangkraf, organised by Sinar Karangkraf to celebrate its 18th anniversary. This event, held at Dataran Karangkraf in Shah Alam, aimed to bring together local communities and showcase the diverse backgrounds of Sinar Harian’s audience. YB Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, officiated the carnival.
At this event, Northport set up an exhibition booth to promote its ‘Northport Apprenticeship Programme’ and other internal vacancies with the objective of attracting qualified candidates from the general public.
Northport’s active participation in these events reflects its ongoing commitment to workforce development and skills enhancement within the port and logistics industry. By engaging directly with potential candidates and the wider community, Northport is not only fostering individual career growth but also contributing to the overall competency and efficiency of the sector. These initiatives play a crucial role in shaping the future of Malaysia’s maritime industry and supporting the nation’s economic growth.
