Northport Gives Back to Community Through CSR Programmes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORTHPORT GIVES BACK TO COMMUNITY THROUGH CSR PROGRAMMES
KLANG, 20 May 2021 – Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group, continued to demonstrate its commitment as a responsible corporate organisation by helping the underprivileged and those in need of help with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes throughout the holy month of Ramadan 2021.
On 19 and 24 April 2021, Northport and the 40th Port Specialists Regiment of the Royal Army Engineers Regiment (RAJD) participated in the Group CSR Programme, MMC Prihatin by distributing 200 packs of essential items to asnaf and underprivileged communities around Klang. For this programme, Northport worked with the local mosques namely Masjid Ahmadi, Kampung Rantau Panjang, Masjid As-Saadah, Bandar Sultan Suleiman and Masjid Jamek Samadiah, Port Klang, to identify the targeted recipients.
The surge in the volume of container handling at major ports in Malaysia since the middle of 2020 has led to the continuous and uninterrupted movement of cargo, and haulier drivers are among the key components in ensuring timely and safe delivery of the cargo to its intended destinations. In appreciating the hard work and commitment of haulier drivers, who are among the frontline workers for the shipping and logistics industry, Northport distributed iftar food packs at its container terminal gates for the drivers from 19 until 21 April 2021.
For the healthcare frontline workers, Northport showed its appreciation for their relentless sacrifice, hard work and dedication in helping the community to fight against COVID-19 throughout the month of Ramadan by distributing iftar food packs to healthcare staff at the Selangor State Health Department on 4 May 2021. Northport’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof handed the food packs to the Deputy Director for Public Health, Dr B. Venugopalan in a simple ceremony held at their office.
On 10 May 2021, Northport continued to organise its annual Hari Raya CSR program with the Mah Meri ethnic community in Carey Island. A total of 170 residents from five (5) villages in Carey Island namely Kampung Kepau Laut, Kampung Sungai Rambai, Kampung Sungai Kurau, Kampung Sungai Judah and Kampung Sungai Bumbun, were provided with essential food items to help their preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The programme was successfully organised with the participation and assistance from the 40th Regiment RAJD.
“These CSR programmes are a reflection of Northport’s commitment to helping the underprivileged community where we operate while continuing to play our role as front liners during the COVID-19 crisis, to ensure that the national economy and the movement of basic needs of the Malaysian public are not interrupted. It is hoped that these programmes will help the community to embrace the spirit of togetherness during the holy month of Ramadan and the joy of celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in the new normal,” said Dato’ Azman.
