PORT KLANG, 6 May 2024 – In the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group, recently hosted its annual Hari Raya Open House. The event, held on Friday, 26 April 2024, served as a gathering for Northport’s large community, which included customers, business partners, Government Agencies, community leaders, Northport employees and other stakeholders.

With the theme “Raya Anugerah”, the Hari Raya Open House event symbolised the essence of gratitude, reflecting Northport’s journey towards excellence as part of the Reinventing Northport initiative since 2016. The event also acknowledged the dedication and efforts of every employee of Northport by recognising their individual achievements.

“We purposely chose the theme “Raya Anugerah” to align with the spirit of Aidilfitri, which emphasises gratitude for the blessings we received after the month-long fast of Ramadan. I always remind our employees to be thankful of the ‘Anugerah’ bestowed upon us, whether in the form of business performance, health, teamwork or character-building experiences that have allowed us to excel and elevate us to where we are today,” said Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport.

The theme “Raya Anugerah” also signified Northport’s outstanding performance in recent years, earning several awards and recognitions both locally and internationally.

Since 2016, Northport has won an impressive total of 23 accolades and awards, reflecting its commitment to excellence across various aspects of its business operations. Among the recent major awards received by Northport were the Anugerah Perdana Penarafan Bintang Sasaran Penting (APBSP) 2023 under the Key Point ll category in November 2023, and the “Occupational Safety and Health (“OSH”) Practitioner with Best Integrity” Special Award at the Integrity, Governance, and Anti-corruption Awards (“AIGA”) 2023 ceremony hosted by the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) in February 2024.

Internationally, Northport was the winner of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (“IAPH”) 2022 Sustainability Award under the Health Safety and Security category, the first Malaysian port to receive the prestigious international award from IAPH during the IAPH World Ports Conference held in Vancouver, Canada in May 2022. Northport was also announced as one of the recipients of the prestigious British Safety Council’s International Safety Awards (Merit) in May 2023 during the award presentation ceremony held in London.

“In light of the blessings and prosperity we have enjoyed, I always remind all Northport employees not to become complacent but to remain proactive in maintaining and bettering our achievements. Every success and ‘rezeki’ we have received over the years brings about an obligation or responsibility for us to share with those in need, making a meaningful impact on the lives of others and contributing positively to our community,” said Dato’ Azman.

Throughout the recent month of Ramadan, Northport carried out initiatives to help those in need, as part of its effort to give back to the community. It began with the distribution of ‘iftar’ packages to haulier and lorry drivers at Northport terminal gates. This collaborative effort with the Port Klang Authority (“PKA”) was to appreciate the dedication and commitment of industry frontliners in ensuring seamless operations during the month of Ramadan.

Northport also demonstrated its commitment to assisting the local community by donating ten wheelchairs to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang. This donation aimed to provide essential mobility support to the community and patients in need at the hospital. During Ramadan, Northport also organised its annual Ihya’ Ramadan program with the aim of enlivening the spirit of the holy month among Northport employees and the underprivileged community. Financial contributions were also provided to 39 widows and 49 orphans of deceased Northport employees to help them in preparing for the Aidilfitri celebration.

Aside from that, Northport also distributed 250 boxes of essential items to ‘asnaf’ in Seri Perantau Apartment, Port Klang through the MMC Prihatin Programme. The donation comprised basic food items to help them celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Northport concluded its CSR activities for the month of Ramadan by contributing two sets of hydroponic systems to Sekolah Kebangsaan Rantau Panjang, Klang. This initiative was aimed at raising awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability among primary school children, while at the same time promoting local community development.

“We take pride in our role as a responsible corporate citizen, driving success and upholding Port Klang’s legacy of excellence. Moving forward, we remain committed to building upon our past successes with unwavering determination, as we strive to become a Safer, Greener, Smarter, Better port,” concluded Dato’ Azman.
