NORTHPORT COMMEMORATES THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF CONTAINERISATION AT PORT KLANG

On 5 August 2023, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, commemorated the 50th anniversary of containerisation at Port Klang with a simple celebration event at Wharf 8A, Container Terminal 1 (CT1), Northport.

Present at the event were Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport, senior management members, representatives from employee unions and associations, along with employees from various divisions and departments.

During the event, Dato’ Azman delivered an insightful speech highlighting the historical significance of containerisation at Port Klang. It all began with the arrival of MV Tokyo Bay, the first full container vessel to reach Port Klang on 5 August 1973. This historic event marked the dawn of containerisation in Malaysian ports, signifying the beginning of a transformative era in the country’s maritime industry.

Following Dato’ Azman’s speech, all attendees gathered for a group photo, capturing the collective spirit of the occasion. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, commemorating the 50th anniversary of containerisation at Port Klang.
