Northport and Sea Hawk Sign Strategic Collaboration Agreement
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORTHPORT AND SEA HAWK SIGN STRATEGIC COLLABORATION AGREEMENT
DUBAI, 7 March 2022 – Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (“Northport”), a member of MMC Group and Sea Hawk Lines Shipping LLC (“Sea Hawk”) signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (“SCA”) to develop conventional liquid bulk business in Northport.
The exchange of SCA documents between Northport’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof and Sea Hawk’s Director, Mr. Mani Krishnan was witnessed by the Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Raja Muda of Selangor, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Tarid Sufian, Ambassador of Malaysia to the United Arab Emirates and Yang Berhormat Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, Selangor State Executive Councillor Industry and Trade during the opening ceremony of the Selangor Week at Expo 2020 Dubai on 7 March 2022.
The signing of the agreement sealed both parties’ commitment to collaborate and share their respective experiences, expertise, technical capabilities, resources and knowledge in order to position Northport as the regional distribution hub for Sea Hawk’s liquid bulk customers in the ASEAN region.
“As part of Northport’s development strategy over the last five years, we have been creating space and adding new facilities to handle conventional cargo. For Northport, this collaboration is a step forward in our quest to expand our liquid bulk business, which contributed the second highest volume to our total conventional cargo throughput in 2021,” said Dato’ Azman.
Last year, Northport recorded 9,661,283 FWT (“Freight Weight Tonnes”) of cargo, the company’s second highest conventional cargo performance since the establishment of Northport through the merger of Klang Container Terminal (“KCT”) and Klang Port Management (“KPM”) in 2000. The liquid bulk business contributed 2,939,149 FWT or 30.4 % of the total throughput.
Sea Hawk, which was incorporated in 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (“UAE”), is providing integrated logistics and warehousing services including liner operations, customs clearance, and handling of reconditioned cars and general cargo in Dubai, UAE, and the Middle East.
“Strategic location is one of the key factors in our decision to make Port Klang as the hub for our business operations. As Northport is one of the ports in Port Klang that provides the facilities that suit the business needs of our liquid bulk customers, we are delighted to enter into this collaboration and we look forward to growing our business with Northport,” said Mr. Mani Krishnan.
Currently, Sea Hawk is occupying 240,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space owned by Northport and the company is developing 6.06 acres of land to build a 100,000 sq. ft. warehouse facility for their mineral hub in Northport.
“We are very confident that this collaboration will benefit both parties and we look forward to further growth in our conventional cargo throughput,” said Dato’ Azman.
Last year, Northport set a remarkable record-breaking operational performance with an all-time high container throughput in a year after the company recorded a total of 3,324,364 TEUs, despite battling two perfect storms, namely the COVID-19 pandemic and the unprecedented flash floods in December, which had impacted their business operations. To add to this remarkable performance, Northport handled its highest ever monthly conventional cargo throughput in May 2021.
