Kontena Nasional Berhad received 30 units of Volvo’s FM440 6×2 T RAS prime movers from Volvo Trucks Malaysia in a fleet expansion and modernisation move.

PASIR GUDANG, 6 September 2024 – Johor Port Berhad (“Johor Port”), a member of MMC Group, recorded its highest monthly throughput of 102,324 TEUs in August 2024, making it the highest ever monthly throughout in its history and overtaking the previous record of 99,039 TEUs handled in the month of July 2019.

For the first eight (8) months of the year, Johor Port recorded an impressive throughput of 698,914 TEUs, representing an increase of 100,201 TEUs or 16.7% compared to the same period last year; and reflecting a robust growth attributed to increased trade activities in Johor and improved level of services by the Port.

Commenting on the achievement, Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port Berhad, said, “These record numbers underscores Johor Port’s capability to handle large volumes and our ability to support the local importers, exporters and industries in the Southern Region of Malaysia.

August has been our busiest month ever with 102,324 TEUs handled, and achieving this highest ever monthly throughput in our Company’s history is a remarkable milestone for Johor Port”.

“Managing an average of 1,700 external hauliers at our gates daily and achieving yard utilisation rates of up to 120% exemplified our efficiency, as we experienced no operational hiccups and bottlenecks,” added Md Derick.

Dzulfariqh Bin Abdul Manap, Vice President of the Association of Malaysian Hauliers commented that, “Despite the surge in volume resulting in higher number of hauliers accessing the Port, the Truck Turnaround Time (TTT) at the Port was well managed with almost all the trucks being served below 45 minutes.”

“We appreciate Johor Port’s efforts in pushing productivity levels and in reducing Truck Turnaround Time at the Port and we hope that Johor Port will continue to maintain its high service standards for all its port users,” added Dzulfariqh.

Commenting on the highest ever monthly throughput recorded in Johor Port’s history, the Shipping Association Malaysia (SAM), Johor Chapter acknowledged that Johor Port’s throughput achievement in August was remarkable given the ongoing challenges arising from the recent global supply chain disruption which has been affecting many ports globally.

“Johor Port has managed their operations efficiently during this busy period, recording short vessel waiting time and even managing to provide Berth on Arrival (BoA) for most of the vessels arriving out of window,” added the spokesperson.

“Our focus remains on strengthening our competitive edge and in continuing to offer unparalleled value to our customers. We are geared up for the challenges ahead and are confident of our productivity and operational processes, in catering to the needs and expectations of our customers and stakeholders,” concluded Md Derick.

Johor Port has allocated a sum of more than RM1 billion in CAPEX over the next five (5) years to further improve its infrastructure, purchase new equipment and automate some of its port operations; in line with its position as the premier gateway for trade and logistics in Southern Malaysia.
