KONTENA NASIONAL BERHAD EXPANDS ITS FLEET WITH THE ADDITION OF 30 NEW PRIME MOVERS
Kontena Nasional Berhad received 30 units of Volvo’s FM440 6×2 T RAS prime movers from Volvo Trucks Malaysia in a fleet expansion and modernisation move.
JOHOR BAHRU, 19 April 2019 – Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, signed a Marine Services Agreement with PETRONAS LNG Ltd (PLL), a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) at Renaissance Hotel, Johor Bahru.
The signing of the Marine Services Agreement by Johor Port Bhd and PPL enables the provisioning of marine services and attractive tariff for vessels that receive Gassing Up and Cooling Down (GUCD) services at PLL’s Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP). The GUCD is a specialised service of bringing the storage tanks on liquefied natural gas carrier (LNG) vessels to a natural environment and cooling it down to cryogenic temperature (minus 160 degrees Celcius). The GUCD process is a requirement for LNG vessels to ensure safe loading of the next LNG cargo.
The collaborative effort between Johor Port and PLL is hoped to encourage more vessel operators and owners to utilise the service at Pengerang terminal, taking advantage of its strategic location and close proximity to ship yards in Malaysia and Singapore.
Johor Port currently provides a range of marine services for all types of vessels including Tug and Pilotage, Berthing and Unberthing, Shifting, Oil Rig Movement / Oil Rig Positioning & Repositioning, Dockwise Offload and Onload, Ship to Ship Transfer, Dead Ship Tow, Anchoring and Lay-Up as well as Docking and Undocking of Very Large Cruise Carriers (VLCC).
“Johor Port has well-trained and experienced pilots to handle all types of vessels, and well equipped with supporting resources like tug boats, mooring boats and mooring gangs that are at par with other developed ports in the region,” said Shahrull Allam Shah Abdul Halim, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port.
Johor Port has an existing working relationship with PETRONAS dating back to 2015 in the Material Off Loading Facility (MOLF) project in Teluk Ramunia and Tanjung Setapa. Johor Port is also currently operating and managing the PETRONAS Solid Product Terminal (SPT) in Pengerang which includes the provision of operating equipment, systems and manpower. The 25-year concession of the SPT operations granted to Johor Port is a clear sign of the Oil and Gas giant’s recognition and confidence in the port’s capability and commitment.
