Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, supported the Government’s aspiration towards reaching herd immunity after 94.3% or 1,904 out of 2,018 employees of Northport have received their vaccination. Of the 1,904 vaccinated employees, 1,707 of them have successfully completed their two doses of vaccination recently, under the Transportation Sector Vaccination Programme by Ministry of Transport.

The programme, which involved the vaccination of 10,000 seafarers and port workers, was launched on 25 June 2021 by YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Minister of Transport Malaysia and YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Coordinating Minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme at Dewan Kelab Sukan Lembaga Pelabuhan Kelang in Port Klang.

The programme was managed by the Port Klang Authority in collaboration with Marine Department Malaysia, Northport, Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Port Klang Free Zone.

It is hoped that the vaccination programme will help to protect the port employees from severe effects caused by the COVID-19 virus as the port sector is deemed as the essential services and continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure that the movement of goods are not interrupted and economic activities continue to take place.
