SWETTENHAM PIER CRUISE TERMINAL STAGES A REMARKABLE COMEBACK TO JUMPSTART THE CRUISE INDUSTRY IN MALAYSIA

On 23 December 2021, Penang Port Sdn Bhd (Penang Port), a member of MMC Group collaborated with Penang Port Commission (PPC) and Genting Cruise Lines to relaunch the cruise operations in Malaysia at Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT), George Town.

The event was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Minister of Transport with the presence of Dato’ Syed Mohamad bin Syed Murtaza, Chairman of Penang Port, Dato’ Sasedharan Vasudevan, Chief Executive Officer of Penang Port, Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, Chairman of PPC, Monaliza Suhaimi, General Manager of PPC and Cynthia Lee, Vice President of Sales, Genting Cruise Lines.

This launch showed SPCT’s readiness to comply with the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) while providing the best experience for cruise passengers. Tourists should no longer be concerned as SPCT has been thoroughly inspected for the passengers’ safety through strict SOPs and guidelines to curb COVID-19. During the same event, Penang Port also handed over a fire van brigade to the Bomba Sukarela & Penyelamat Jalan Rozhan and Penang Port Care Packages to the Penang Trishaw Riders.

Penang Port will continue to work closely with PPC and Genting Cruise Lines to revitalise the domestic tourism sector and provide a much-needed spill over economic effect to the small and medium enterprises, taxi and e-hailing drivers, trishaw riders, and food and beverage businesses in Penang.
