On 5 February 2024, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group organised a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration with students at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Pandamaran Jaya, Port Klang.

To continue the company’s CSR initiatives aimed at instilling environmental preservation values among school children, Northport once again collaborated with a school in the vicinity of its operations to introduce hydroponic methods for plant cultivation. This programme was also conducted following the success of a similar CSR initiative held in conjunction with last year’s Deepavali festival.

During the programme, representatives from Northport’s Facilities Department and Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Division installed two sets of hydroponic equipment and provided a comprehensive briefing on hydroponic farming. The school children were provided with an engaging opportunity to cultivate water spinach using the innovative hydroponic method. This hands-on experience not only fosters a deeper understanding of hydroponic planting but also cultivates a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

The Chinese New Year CSR programme exemplified Northport’s dedication to fostering meaningful connections with the local community. Beyond instilling a sense of unity among multiracial Malaysians during festivities, the activity also showcased Northport’s commitment towards Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
