NORTHPORT, PTP AND JOHOR PORT PARTICIPATE IN THE MALAYSIA MARITIME WEEK 2023

From 20 to 23 June 2023, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) and Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), members of MMC Group, participated in Malaysia Maritime Week 2023 (MMW23).  The four-day event was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, hosted by the Malaysia Marine Department and organised by the Malaysian Shipowners’ Association (MASA). The event was officiated by YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Habibollah, the Deputy Minister of Transport Malaysia. MMW23 featured 24 exhibitors from the local maritime industry players and four international players from Indonesia, South Korea, Japan and China, respectively.

MMW23 brings together leaders and experts from the maritime industry to share knowledge, build partnership, and explore new business opportunities. The event also featured conference sessions to discuss the global narrative of shipping’s energy transition, echoing the unwavering commitment of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to protect and preserve the environment. This is in line with the theme, which is ‘MARPOL at 50 – Our commitment goes on’.

On 22 June 2023, PTP was announced to be part of the Partnerships for Infrastructure (P4I), a Government-to-Government (G2G) project between Malaysia and Australia. The project aims to spearhead the country’s decarbonising effort in the maritime industry and to foster inclusive growth through sustainable infrastructure in Southeast Asia.

In addition, PTP also received recognition from the Malaysia Marine Department to pilot a special project in Malaysia through the Green Tug and Pilot Boat initiatives. This recognition came after PTP successfully completed all the requirements set forth by the Malaysian Government, via the Ministry of Transport and IMO respectively.

The participation of Northport, PTP and Johor Port was part of a stakeholder engagement initiative aimed at strengthening relationships with Government agencies and industry stakeholders. This event also offers networking opportunities to gain valuable insights into industry trends and provide firsthand information about emerging technologies and future growth opportunities for the maritime industry.
