On 14 July 2023, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, successfully renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), to enhance their collaboration in talent development, research development, port management, sharing of expertise in maritime technology as well as other related fields of interest, as part of the efforts in further enhancing the maritime sector within Malaysia.

The signing ceremony was conducted at the Port Briefing Room, Wisma A Building. The signage was between Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP and Professor Dato’ Dr. Mazlan Abd Ghaffar, Vice-Chancellor of UMT.

Over the past five years, both PTP and UMT have collaborated and delivered Work Based Learning (WBL) programmes for internships as well as industry attachment programmes. Through this, PTP has prospectively identified and absorbed UMT students into its PTP Port Operations Planning Apprentice (POPA) programme since 2017.

Strategic collaboration with institutions of higher learning and Government agencies is an integral part of PTP’s initiatives towards enhancing the competency level and skills of its current and future employees. This further expands the company’s commitment in working towards their social initiatives of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies.
