PTP TEST READINESS IN DEALING WITH HIGH-LEVEL EMERGENCY TIER II

On 20 December 2022, Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) a member of MMC Group, successfully organized PTP M-DEX Major Disaster Exercise at PTP.

In collaboration with Chief Government Security Officer, Civil Defence Malaysia, Johor State Fire and Rescue Department, Ministry of Health, Johor Port Authority and University Technology Malaysia, the objective of the exercise was to test the preparedness in dealing with high-level emergency (TIER II) situations and the operational aspects of the HAZMAT Special Forces.

The scenario for this exercise was an accident involving 40 cylinders containing chlorine gas which had fallen from the container and resulted in 30 victims who had fainted and suffered injuries. The situation worsened when chlorine fumes spread to the Engineering Building and the evacuation of the building involved 68 victims. Business continuity management section involving top management of PTP, and various department was then activated to provide support and assistance in managing the situation.

After the successful handling of the situation, a small closing ceremony was held Port Briefing Room, Wisma A PTP which was attended by Puan Nurul Farhana, Deputy Director of Security of the Johor State Government, PgB Rosfarawadi Ismani Bin Ismail, Head of Management Operations and station, Fire and rescue Johor state, Doctor Norazimah Binti Muhamad Aris, Head of Occupational and Environmental health unit Johor Bahru, Lt. (PA) Norhidayat Bin Dahalan, Johor Bahru Civil Defense Force, Dr Kamarizan Bin Kidam, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Chemical and Energy  Engineering, Syahkhairul Muhammad Bin Muktar, Johor Port Authority, Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer PTP, Khairul Amalin Bin Abdul Rahman, Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment Division, Lokman Hakim Bin Haji Sulaiman, Head of Emergency and Crisis Management Department and others.

Through this exercise, bilateral relations between PTP and Government Agencies can be strengthened further especially in dealing with any incidents in the future.
