ISKANDAR PUTERI, 13 June 2024 – Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a joint venture between Malaysia-based MMC Group and Netherlands-based APM Terminals, proudly clinched this year’s Industry Excellence Award or Anugerah Kecemerlangan Industri (AKI) for the Services Sector in Category 4, reflecting its dedication to merit and pursuit of high performance.

This esteemed accolade recognises PTP’s admirable achievements and contributions as a leading player in the maritime industry, celebrating its status as a source of national pride among the top companies in the country.

AKI was introduced by the then Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1991 to recognise outstanding Malaysian companies, and to encourage their continuous improvement in products and services rendered, garnering its reputation as the nation’s premier corporate recognition award. The Category 4 of the Services Sector award is specifically for domestic companies with a sales turnover of more than RM100 million.

Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, PTP Chairman, expressed that PTP is incredibly honoured to receive this prestigious award from MITI, as this recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team at PTP.

“The AKI awards are a highly respected acknowledgement of excellence among Malaysian companies. Winning this award underscores PTP’s commitment to delivering exceptional services, driving innovative practices, and consistently exceeding industry benchmarks.”

“Our people are the heart of the company, and they are deeply committed to create and provide an excellent business environment not only for themselves and the company, but also for our customers and the communities in which we operate. PTP is committed to continuously improving our services, to remain a leading force in the maritime industry, both in Malaysia and globally,” Tan Sri Che Khalib added.

Mark Hardiman, PTP Chief Executive Officer, received the award from YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, at the awards ceremony held at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The event, graced by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia Prime Minister, celebrated the winners and participants.

Mark Hardiman lauded this achievement as a significant milestone. He remarked that the recognition validates PTP’s dedication to excellence.

“Delivering such impressive results is not easy, as the journey itself is one of continuous improvement. For PTP, it is always about prioritising safety and putting our customers first, as well as ensuring we have highly motivated, empowered and skilled workforce in place to achieve our goals in a very competitive landscape.”

“Winning an award at this level is immensely rewarding for the team at PTP. It recognises their dedication and hard work, motivating them to strive for even greater heights and to continually improve,” said Mark Hardiman.

“PTP remains committed to focusing on people, technology and processes. We will continue to strive to exceed expectations and solidify our position as a leading regional transshipment hub.”

Recently, PTP accomplished several remarkable operations milestones. PTP became the first port in Malaysia to handle a record-breaking 1,077,747 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in a single month without experiencing any congestion, in the month of May 2024. Additionally, PTP achieved the prestigious recognition of being ranked as the fifth most efficient container port in the world by The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence in the latest Container Port Performance Index 2023, announced in early June 2024.
